Mae West & Napoleon, LIFE Magazine, December 7, 1936
Mae West commissioned Sculptress Gladys Lewis Bush of Hollywood to do this white-marble statue of herself. It now stands in the actress’ living room. Napoleon Bonaparte once ordered from the great Canova a statue of himself. Embarrassed when it turned out like this, Napoleon hid it away in a dark corner of the Louvre. After Waterloo, the Duke of Welling carted it off to his London mansion where it still adorns the entrance hall.
