“Hands Off the Babies’ Milk!” and “Which Shall England Feed, Pigs or Babies?”
These were among the demands made by mothers of English children on big signs they carried in a parade in Hyde Park, England, as a protest against the artificially high prices of milk. These prices were raised by “profiteers” who used the war as an excuse for a boost in cost of foods. Mothers of children whose fathers are off at the front organized a pig procession and succeeded in having the government force down prices.
