“Tom” presides over the destinies of Trinity Court, Dartmouth street, Boston. He sits at the entrance of the court to inspect each new comer, and one can tell in what esteem he is held by the wave of his tail and the slant of his eye.

Tom thinks he has a right to enter every suite in the court, but he has a greater regard for special favorites, and if he is ejected he shows his resentment by freely using his claws.
