“A large spot on the earth’s surface” says the professor, “undoubtedly would be noticed by the Martians, who, if their intelligence is equal to ours undoubtedly have powerful telescope.”
The Martians, to paraphrase Prof. Cranshaw, “if they have intelligence equal to our own” undoubtedly would be able to read plain English.
