When I got a kindle around 2009 I downloaded hundreds of public domain books (pre-1920s) and I was really struck by how our actions and feelings really hadn’t changed all that much - most books, especially when you’re reading conversations or about a characters thoughts, could’ve been written today and it might be difficult to tell the difference. I wanted to dig deeper though, and see what the day to day lives of people were like back then, and I think newspapers are pretty much the best way to do that!
