Even then, all married people, in our culture anyway, mostly being women, wore (and still do wear) their wedding ring on the left hand! Putting it in the right place may call proper attention to it, before he gets his knickers in a knot? There are some European cultures, and some religions, require the wedding ring be worn on the right hand.
  8. sharid57 said: Men began wearing wedding rings in the UK during WWII, although not nearly as much as men in the States. Gold was strictly rationed, like all else in the UK during WWII, even for women. They were hard to find, mostly due to the shortage of gold mining, but also to ring making labor. Jewelers with such skills were more valuable in making finely detailed electronics. Wedding bands were rationed to 2 pennyweights of 9ct gold, and must have a Utility Mark with the hallmark.
