Why do we assume that people back then were somehow more "serious" or "sophisticated" than we are today?
Good question! There was a lot more emphasis on ‘propriety’ back in the day, but people were still people and you can definitely see that come through even in the more mundane papers. They had the same emotions as we do and could be just as silly as we are today!
