what even is a masher

Asked by Anonymous

A masher was basically a dandy or a dude who usually spent his time loafing around outside places like movie theatres, soda parlors and on street corners (sometimes alone, sometimes in groups) staring, “throwing kisses”, catcalling and trying to flirt with any girl who walked by. Sometimes they escalated, trying to “hug” women (I think “hug” was usually a bit of a euphemism).
