St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Missouri, November 8, 1896
I
Of all the insufferable bores
Allowed on earth to go,
The worst is he who cries with glee
“Aha! I told you so!”
He waits until the news is in
Then wanders to and fro.
And broadly grins, whoever wins,
And then says “I told you so!”
II
A post-election prophet he -
He’s ever lying low,
To catch a man to whom he can
Repeat: “I told you so!”
He thinks it funny as can be,
When you have lost your dough,
To rudely chaff you with a laugh
And say: “I told you so!”
III
Should you be on the winning side,
And feel inclined to blow,
He’ll get there first with his accursed
“Aha! I told you so!”
Should ever you by chance abive
Where naughty people go,
Perhaps in turn you’ll watch him burn,
And chuckle: “told you so”
